The topology must be symmetrical. If your model came from however, it is no longer the same across any axis mesh then the edgelooping may not be consistent across axis. Symmetry Drawing Tutorial and Fixing Symmetrical Problems in ZBrush
Try this: Mask off the arms and anything else you don't want moved and in the deformation menu hit smart resym. Restart ZBrush and the hotkey Z will work for the Tool:Undo and not the Z symmetry. Have fun.:slight_smile. Generally speaking, if you want a feature to have no influence on the other side of the mesh, you would disable mirror symmetry. ZBrush: Your.

The reason why I so desperately want to remove the z as the hotkey for zmirror is because sometimes when I try to undo something I dont press the control button all the way down, and instead of undoing I turn on z-mirror function. If your model came from earlier versions of ZBrush and had n-gons in the base mesh then the edgelooping may not be consistent across axis. Gratefully, your comments pushed me to test that assumption. Of course, the smart-resym feature is good for those scenarios, but I am often working in situations where I have multiple objects combined into a single subtool and I had been operating under the assumption that the smart-resym feature would not work in that scenario.
